By comparison to the success seen in the 60's and 70's, history may give the impression that the 80's saw the kennel adopt a somewhat lower profile.
In terms of the numbers of CC's and Bondor champions this may be true, however, this is mostly due to the direction of Allan's life throughout this
period, and not through a decline in quality. In fact from a exhibitors standpoint, it was essentially business as usual.
Judging duties again saw Allan travelling, this time further afield with appointments in Australia for the Queensland AHA 9th Specialty,
and another engagement in South Africa. The Queensland AHA show was particularly poignant for Allan,
as Eric Swallow had judged the inaugural show some years before.

On the home front, the B CINNAMON son owned by Peter Luty flew the flag, and took his first & second CC's in 1980.
By 1982 he had won his third CC and also collected 2 RCC's along the way.
Ch BONDOR GYPSEY CASSANOVA had his crown, and the 80's had their first Bondor champion

Meanwhile the breeding programme continued, and the home owned Ch B SHADES OF SERENADE was mated to
Ch KARNAK SHAMROCK. The litter was born in August 1981, and would see the continuance of the lines and the success.
Again though, throughout the 1980's , the emphasis would be on the continued success of others rather than Allan or Edric in the ring.

From the litter Ch BONDOR HOT GOSSIP AT KARANDIKAR, owned by Geoff and Wendy Bastow, and
Ch BONDOR SOME LIKE IT HOT owned by Sheila and Claire MacDonald of the BIRKHALL kennel, exhibited breed type and elegance.
Both were made up throughout the latter half of the 80's, with HOT GOSSIP winning her first CC in 1986,
whilst her brother took his first ticket in 1984.

Ch Bondor Some Like It Hot

By around 1984, Allan began to get restless. He had visited South Africa in 1979 when he was invited over to
judge the AHA of South Africa Champ Show.(see judging section). The trip to the country left a lasting impression on him,
and he made the decision to emigrate. A throng gathered at Heathrow to see him off, including several noteable faces from the
show scene. Although accompanied on the trip out of the UK by JHANSI ROYAL PERFORMANCE FOR BONDOR, Allan didnt keep any
dogs during his time in Durban. He settled with a new partner in South Africa, Luciana Scarabottolla, who had no interest in dogs whatsoever.
Luciana was a restauranteur, owning the "La Maffia" in Durban. Allan made his living through a canine beaty and grooming parlour
"Hair Of The Dog" and clipped hard, 5 days a week. Home was just off the "Golden Mile" beachfront.

Eventually Luciano and Allan moved to a very swanky apartment overlooking the beach with views that
stretched on for miles. Life was good, to say the least !

Allan & friend in Durban

Although he didn't keep any dogs of his own, Allan remained keenly focussed on canine issues through his longstanding association
with Milan and Anka Anteglievic. Much quality stock had been exported to Milan's "NAS DOM" kennel, and it had been incorporated into
his breeding programme. There was a significant influence from the UK upon the Saouth African scene, with imports from a good many
other kennels widening the gene pool. In retrospect, this seems so divorced from the UK scene today, where rather more stock "comes in"
than "goes out. The Antiglievic's made up several champions, and much of their breeding was based around Bondor lines.

Allan became friends with the late Anna & Gary Katsounis of the world renowned TULA Whippet Kennel. They won BIS at the
World Show in 1980 with their Ch BESEEKA KNIGHT ERRANT OF SILKSTONE, when it was held in Italy. Aonther great friend during
his time in SA was Barbara Longworth, then Patron of the Natal Afghan Club in Durban. On previous judging trips, she had given Allan accomodation
and driven him from show to show. In the Cape, Jackie and Patrick Kelly became friends too. They showed SA Ch BONDOR PRINCE OF THIEVES.

Allan's judging activities continued and he judged several club shows and the South African Dog Of The Year. He enjoyed the life in Durban,
along with the hospitality, but eventually, he began to think of the UK once more. He missed many aspects of life back home, and plans were
made to return. When he did come back, his first stop was the BBC for an interview, followed by Crufts. Following his return,
he met Stuart Smith. Stuart had been in dogs for many years, working at MOONSWIFT, and through his own breeding under the RODRIDGE
affix, where he had shown Chinese Crested's & Min Pins.

Whilst Allan had been sunning himself in SA, the annual show calendar had continued on its way, with both HOT GOSSIP and
SOME LIKE IT HOT being campaigned. At around the same time, a bitch from another mating to KARNAK SHAMROCK,
this time to BONDOR NAUGHTY MARIETTA (a CINNAMON daughter), had resulted in a puppy which went to live with John Cox
and was held in partnership with Allan and Eric. Shown throughout the mid to late 80's, she was crowned to become Ch BONDOR LILAC WINE,
and won her 3rd CC under a judge giving tickets in Afghans for the 1st time, Ken Sinclair.
Reserve CC on the day went to Muriel Boydell's Warrenoak Bohemian Rhapsody

With Allan and Stuart now settled in the North East, Allan became President of the North East Afghan Hound Society, a position
which he holds to this day. Although initially reluctant to begin again, Stuart persuaded Allan that they should begin breeding again, and they
began looking at suitable stock. The Bondor's were on the rise again, and would therefore be "On The Bottle" once puppies began to arrive !
